Insurance Coverage

Many commercial insurance plans have great nutrition coverage! I am credentialed with most commercial insurance plans, including :

Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield Highmark, Independence Blue Cross

**Additional plans accepted: United Healthcare.

**A super-bill can be provided on request for United, and other out-of-network plans.

Insurance FAQs

  • Currently, Nikki is in-network with Aetna, Cigna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield Highmark.

    Other plans can have a superbill provided on request.

    Nikki is not able to accept Medicare or Medicaid at this time.

  • If you have benefits, you can use insurance for your nutrition visits (Nutrition Counseling/MNT sessions only - this does not apply to grocery store tours).

    However, this does not mean that all insurances cover nutrition. Therefore, it is required to have benefits verified ahead of your visit. Nikki asks for at least 5 days notice to have your insurance details loaded into your account to have adequate time to verify benefits. Any appointments without insurance details uploaded within 5 days of your scheduled appointment will be cancelled unless Nikki is notified to convert your appointment to private pay.

    Nikki has listed the steps below on what to ask your insurance company to pre-verify if your plan has nutrition counseling coverage! Nikki will also call to verify as well, but this is an awesome first step if you are able to check your plan yourself.

    In the event that your claim is denied for lack of nutrition coverage, the cost of a private pay appointment will apply. Nutrition Support Solutions accepts all major credit cards and HSA/FSA cards.

    1. Is Nutrition Support Solutions LLC (NPI: 1972330876)/Dominique (Nikki) Johnston (NPI 1184324386) currently an in-network provider for my plan?

    2. If not, what are my out-of-network benefits?

    3. Does my plan cover the following outpatient nutrition counseling CPT codes: 97802, 97803, 99401-99404?

    4. Do I have nutrition counseling visits covered under preventative care with my insurance plan? (ICD 10 code Z71.3?)

    5. Does my plan cover Telehealth appointments?(and Is there a copay for Telehealth appointments?)

    6. How many sessions are covered per year?

    7. Have any sessions been used so far this year?

    8. Do I need a referral from my physician?

    9. Does my plan require a prior authorization for nutrition services?

    10. Do I have a deductible for nutrition counseling services? If so, how much is it and how much has been met?

  • If your plan does not have coverage for nutritional counseling, or if Nikki is not in-network with your specific plan, no worries!

    Option 1: Superbill

    Nikki can provide you with a super-bill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement (although it’s not guaranteed, it’s an option!)

    Option 2: Private Pay

    Initial consultation: $180 (60 min)

    Follow-up visits: $80 (30 min)
